About Token Counter

Paste Chinese, English or code and get instant token estimates for major LLMs: a universal char/token ratio gives results immediately, and the precise OpenAI tokenizer (o200k/cl100k) loads on demand for exact counts. Also shows platform character limits (Weibo, Xiaohongshu, X…) and a writing-goal converter ("how many tokens is a 2,000-word essay?"). Everything runs locally in your browser — no text ever leaves your device.

FAQ

Is the token count exact?
The default result is an estimate based on per-tokenizer char/token ratios — good for sizing. Clicking "precise count" loads OpenAI's o200k/cl100k tokenizer for exact GPT-family counts. Models without public tokenizers (Claude, Gemini) always remain estimates and are labelled as such.
How many tokens is one Chinese character?
There is no single answer: GPT models typically run ~0.6–0.7 tokens per common character (~1.4–1.6 chars per token), while rare words and jargon cost more; some Chinese-first models are more efficient. This tool converts per model instead of using one blanket ratio.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All computation runs 100% client-side — including the precise-mode tokenizer — so your text never leaves your device.
